Winner of "Inspired by Scotland" competition
Shortbread is one of Marks and Spencer’s core competancies. This large market share has become increasingly more under threat from other retailers undercutting on price whilst imitating the once distinctive M&S packaging.
Marks and Spencer required a new look for their tins to attract a new, younger market whilst appealing loyal customers and distinguishing the product from others on the market.
In answer to this brief I produced the following painting. Vibrant colours and stark contrast injects the image with energy whilst the familiar view over Edinburgh provides something not to far removed from the castles and mountain shots of previous years.
The tin was released in August 2008 and sold four hundred-thousand by Christmas in stores across the UK and worldwide.
